Lodge Seattle No. 181, Seattle, WA. Our JOIN HANDS DAY project was volunteering at the North Helpline Food Bank in the Lake City area of Seattle. Working together with students from Lakeside and O’Dea High Schools, we passed out groceries to people in need. Having been informed by the volunteer coordinator that there was a shortage of volunteers for that day, we worked both the morning and afternoon hours. Our lodge volunteers also helped repackage bulk items for individual family distribution, and helped reload distribution bins. Helping the food bank clients obtain their food preferences was a priority. The week prior to the event, we reviewed the food bank’s online wish list and collected 29.6 lbs of canned food items (mostly soups) and 4 lbs of full sized toiletries. This was the first time we worked at the new and spacious food bank location. The new volunteer rest area had a corner honoring the memory of our departed past president, Lea Ann Steele.
